Property tax deadlines vary by state, by county, and sometimes by city. There's no single national due date... which means if you own property in more than one state, or you've recently moved, it's easy to miss a payment you didn't know was coming.
Here's every state's property tax schedule for 2026, organized by month. For county-specific deadlines and payment links, search your county on our homepage.
January
- ›Texas: Annual deadline is January 31. After that, a 6% penalty hits immediately, plus 1% per month.
- ›Mississippi: February 1 is the delinquency date, so January is your last clean month to pay.
February
- ›Idaho: First half due December 20, second half due June 20. But if you're paying in full, it's due December 20.
- ›Most states: February is quiet. If you missed a January deadline, penalties are already accruing.
March
- ›Indiana: First installment due May 10 in most counties. March is when assessment notices start arriving... start your appeal research now.

The States That Make It Complicated
A few states deserve special mention for being... unpredictable:
- ›Illinois: Cook County bills often arrive late and deadlines shift. The rest of the state varies by county.
- ›New York: NYC has its own rules. Nassau County has its own rules. Every municipality picks its own schedule.
- ›Pennsylvania: Deadlines vary not just by county but by school district and municipality.
In these states especially, find your specific county page to get the exact dates that apply to you.
Don't Rely on Your Memory
Property tax deadlines don't align with any other date you're already tracking. They're not tied to income tax season, they're not consistent across states, and they can shift from year to year.
Set up a free reminder on your county page and we'll email you before each deadline. It takes 30 seconds and saves you the penalty.
